Isabel Demarchi says peace is about being “quiet and calm”.
The six-year-old and her brother Samuel Demarchi joined a group of children at the ‘Peace for Little People’ event at Launceston LINC on Saturday.
The children’s event was held as part of the Tamar Valley Peace Festival, which ends on Sunday.
Festival Education Champion Alison Jales said the event was about encouraging children to come up with their own definition of peace.
“Children are very sensible, if you talk to adults about what peace is about quite often they talk about a lack of violence,” Ms Jales said.
“Kids understand peace is about more than that, peace is about things like tolerance and understanding and sharing meals.”
Ms Jales said she hoped the festival would continue to grow.
“It’s a really important event for the community, for a number of different reasons,” she said.
“I think it’s important that we continue to encourage it to get bigger and bigger each year.”
