City enters into spirit of Tamar Valley Peace Festival

Peace has descended on the Old Brisbane and Centreway arcades in Launceston as part of the Tamar Valley Peace Festival, with origami cranes symbolic of peace and hope strung in colourful displays. 

In Japanese legend, making 1000 paper cranes grants a wish from the gods. More recently it has come to represent peace. 

Cityprom Business Liaison Officer, Kristy O’Byrne, estimates over 1000 cranes have been made by participating schools, which have been strung in the Old Brisbane Arcade as Cityprom’s contribution to the peace festival.

The public were also invited to attend an origami making workshop in the Centreway Arcade on Saturday where they learnt to make the cranes. 

“We’ve had a great response this morning, lots of people in the door and we’ve had lots of good feedback about the displays as well,” said Ms O’Byrne who would like to thank students for their work in the last few weeks of term to make the cranes for display.
